After a night in Yungaburra we headed through the Tablelands and up to Kuranda, which is situated high up in the hills, just north of Cairns. It is a lovely little village, with lots of markets, geared up for tourists with souvenir shop after sovenir shop - but if you ever did want to buy a purse made from kangaroo scrotum, or a necklace made from crocodile teeth then this would be the place to find it!!
We decided to jump on the tourist band wagon and visit Koala Gardens, Bird World and Butterfly World, which was actually really nice. We even got to 'cuddle a Koala', which the handler assured us the Koala enjoys! She was really cute, just one year old and called Sienna. It is very rare to see Koala's in the wild, so we think this will be our only sighting while we're in OZ! We also got to feed Wallabies and Kangaroos in their enclosure, it was great to get so close to them. After a wander around the markets of Kuranda we called in to see Baron Falls on the way back down the mountain. The falls are huge and you can hear the water thundering down the rocks from really far away. Then it was back to Cairns for the night, ready for our flight to Ayers Rock the next day.
