After another great breakfast in Martinborough we headed off in the car for our drive North the Napier. The drive took about 4 hours and consisted mostly of rural farmland and small towns. Apart from a quick picnic lunch we did most of the sights via drive by!
Our hotel for the next 5 nights was the Masonic hotel in Napier, the Art Deco capital of the world. Our room and the town in general, really did make us feel like you are in an episode of poirot! We headed out for a walk around the city to get a initial look around and had a couple beers in our hotel bar. We decided an Indian was fancied tonight so choose the top rated on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. Both of us decided it was near on the best Indian we had ever tasted and told the English owner so.
Thursday we started with a cheap and cheerful Subway breakfast before having another walk around the centre of town and a look at more of the Art Deco buildings. We then walked to the next little area along the coast called Ahuriri, where by the time we got there it was lunchtime! As well as lunch we also watched a group of Maori practice their traditional dance and song routines. After a quick google we discovered there are national Maori Haka championships going on nearby so we found a pub and watched a few of the groups do there stuff on TV.
Our hotel has an Irish bar attached which was playing music in the evening, so we decided to go have our dinner there and catch that. Dinner was good, music was not so we left.
