Today was all about the sounds of the south island of New Zealand, we'd been told that we would be entering the first of these, the Milford sound, at around 0730. When we opened the curtains this morning we saw the first land of New Zealand just as we were approaching the entrance to Milford sound. The weather had been kind to us as there was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was just rising, in fact we were told it’s only like this twice a season, who knows if this is true or not!
Photos never really do a place justice and the same can be said here, we've limited the amount on the blog and tried to pick the best from all the different pics to give a taster of what the sound were like. We spent around 2 ½ hours in Milford sound before journeying up to Doubtful sound, the time in between was spent having some tea and then heading to the main dining room for lunch. Today was a brunch buffet, each station was decorated with an elaborate ice sculpture, some had a purpose and others were there just to be looked at!
At around 1300 we reached the entrance to Doubtful sound and took around an hour to pass through there and back into the tasman sea, by the time we reached Dusky sound it was afternoon snack time so we picked up our snack and ate it while passing through, the weather had held up and it was a spectacular experience.
We started the evening in the martini bar where we now have our favs so tend to stick to them. Dinner was in the last of the speciality restaurants which is also the one you pay the most to visit. To be honest it wasn’t our fav meal on board and it seemed to last forever, they did have good puddings and a nice cheese plate. We headed for another drink with our favourite bartender before calling it a night.
