We woke up this morning just as the announcement that the gangway to depart the boat was available and we were free to explore Wellington. We had decided again that we would just use our own feet to explore rather than booking any sort of tour. After getting ready and having our usual buffet breakfast, we headed off the boat and jumped in a shuttle bus into the centre of Wellington.
The bus stopped first at the information centre and then at the cable car, most people seemed to be getting off at the first stop so we stayed on and went straight to the cable car. It takes you up to the top of the botanical gardens which we then walked back through and ended up near the parliament buildings. After this we headed through the city and into the civic square before walking along the waterfront, weather was lovely and everyone seemed to be taking advantage with some particularly brave kids jumping into the water at one spot.
We stopped for lunch at a micro-brewery which turned out to be much better than expected then carried on to another part of the city which was where all the cool kids hung out. It was really nice with cool shops and bars, but we didn't really hang around too long. Late afternoon we headed back to the ship where we relaxed by the pool with a couple of cocktails, before it was time to get ready for dinner.
As usual we started the evening in the Martini bar where we met up with Ryan and Alex from Denver to enjoy a couple of martinis before dining in Blu. After dinner we attempted a couple more cocktails but by this time we were getting pretty full of all these great drinks, so we made our way to the casino to try our luck on the slot machines. The night ended with a cup of tea and a little room service, which was not particularly good but we just wanted to try it!
