We left Krabi on the 8am bus for the 12 hour journey to Bangkok. The bus journey was not too bad with plenty of stops although there was an older lady sitting behind us who was excessively burping!! We were also sitting quite near the toilet and let's just say that the smell wasn't too great.
We got into Bangkok's southern bus station just before 8pm and jumped straight into a taxi to our hotel which is called Roof Place view. We couldn't see much of Bangkok due to it being quite late but we did get an idea of how massive Bangkok is as it took around half an hour in the taxi. We got checked in at the hotel and went and grabbed some street food from some of the streets around our hotel.
On Monday morning, we decided to explore Bangkok so we walked the 15 minutes from our hotel to the famous Ko Sahn Road. We had a walk down the street and let's just say that the tuk tuk drivers, the taxi drivers and the touts are very persistent. After battling our way past them all we visited a couple of temples which were both really impressive before we came back to the hotel as we were both feeling a bit dodgy.
Feeling better, we went for a couple of drinks on Ko Sahn Road on Monday night. I had a few beers while Beth had what is called a vodka bucket. The street is teeming with people at night and it was rammed with street sellers and food stalls. It was not quite as seedy as we thought it might be and had expected. On our way back to the hotel I grabbed a Pad Thai which was amazing and Beth had some chicken sticks which were apparently really good.
Today, we visited the grand palace and Wat Pho temple. Unfortunately, we couldn't go into the grand palace as we needed to rent clothes to cover up my legs and Beth's shoulders and we had only brought a small amount of money. It did look really impressive though from what we seen. The Wat Pho temple was magnificent. There is a statue of a reclining Buddha and the buildings were awesomely decorated. After wandering around there for about an hour, we needed to get out of the sweat inducing sun so we headed for a bakery and then went back to the hotel.
Our hotel has been really good value for money we think. It's about £16 a night and we have air conditioning, a tv, a safety deposit box and a balcony. Breakfast is also included which consists of fruit, coffee and tea, eggs an unlimited toast. The toast has been particularly welcome after quite a while with not much bread. Tomorrow we are off to the north of Thailand and to the city of Sukothai.
