Our bus from Siem Reap to Bangkok left just after 9am on Wednesday morning. With all that's happened in Thailand recently, the coach was almost empty with only 6 of us making the trip. This meant that we could spread out and we had a comfortable ride into Bangkok. Crossing the border between Cambodia and Thailand was a lot more straight forward than we feared and there was no issue with our 60 day visas.
We arrived in Bangkok at around 5pm and quickly made our way to a taxi. This being rush hour meant that we did not go anywhere quick and moved about 200m in half an hour before our driver made a u turn and decided on the toll road into the centre of Bangkok. We are staying in the same hotel as last time as we liked the location. As soon as we got here, we decide that we wanted to book out tickets to Koh Samui so we asked at reception when we checked in and they were at the hotel within a half hour. We went out and grabbed a pad Thai each from a street vendor before heading back to the room.
On Thursday morning, we went to Khoasan Road to do a bit of shopping so Beth was in her element. We can't really see any signs of there having been a military coup. A soldier boarded our bus at a checkpoint and had a canny sized machine gun on him but apart from that, we have not seen any obvious signs in Bangkok and all of the bars and restaurants seem to be operating normally with only the curfew disrupting things. Tonight we have again grabbed a pad Thai each and some spring rolls and tomorrow we leave for Koh Samui which we are both looking forward to. We leave Bangkok at 5pm on a train headed south and we expect this part of the journey to last around 12 hours. We then need to get a bus for about an hour and a half before we catch the ferry to Koh Samui which should take around an hour. We are hoping to be in Koh Samui by 10am on Saturday morning. This is the start of our time on the beach as we relax around the Thai islands. We will be on Koh Samui for at least a week but hopefully more if we enjoy it and are able to watch some of the World Cup.
