You pass some breath taking scenery as the road hugs the steep slopes of the north of the island. It takes about three hours to drive one way, (then you've got to drive back because the road doesn't go round the island) as the speed limit is 15 mph most of the way. You start the drive at a small arty town called Pa'ia, that is full of galleries, surf and swimwear shops and restaurants. You see some amazing beaches, many of which are a good hike from the road down steep paths. There are lots of surfers, because they have the best, and most dangerous surf, in the whole of the island chain. George Harrison had a house along this road. He liked the isolation. Bet he didn't drive, most probably got helicoptered in, or private flight. Reached Hana, a sleepy little town, population 700! Amazing that people live in such remote areas. But the peace and tranquility must be amazing! Drove on to the Ohe'o Gulch, the Seven Sacred Pools, though there are actually dozens of pools and a multitude of waterfalls. Walked down to the ocean at Kuloa Point to watch...
