Lynda and Fred Travels
Interesting day. Not! Poured all night so left Grafton early....like 6:30 am...just dawn...thought we'd get out before roads closed! Already pacific highway south of Grafton was closed. Followed Tom Tom directions to Coffs Harbour. At one point went through very high flood water then 10 minutes later found another. At that point I was extremely scared. Turned around and went back thru first one. Literally just made it. A guy in a 4wd watched me and decided not to proceed. So back to Grafton to find major highway which I should have done in first place! ...safe but very wet trip. Was going to stop for coffee at Nambucca heads but because we have been there many times decided to take tourist drive to McLean...lovely stop in front of river for coffee. If it was not pouring it would have been magic...then off to Taree where we booked a motel in a train which sounded great. Got there and paid and it was a real dump. Went to shops for lunch had a chicken salad roll that was soggy and inedible. Said to Fred we are out of this place! No one looks real...truly everyone looked strange...spooky! So we drove to Newcastle and found a beautiful motel with a balcony and two kookaburras greeting us. Very nice. Thank god today is over safe and sound. No wonder why my hair is greying!
