Lynda and Fred Travels
We were exhausted this morning so just spent morning in room watching the flat scenery of holland...first we have seen farms and goats and cows! Feel like we are in known land again! We went through our 64th lock today...final one....these boats have to book the timing of the locks 1 year in advance....they pay 940 euros each trip and it gets deducted at the first lock....it is imperative for them to be on time for the first lock. Amsterdam is an unreal place....busy busy busy......and if you thought china was the country of bicycles you are wrong....there are 750,000 people living in Amsterdam and there are 1 million bicycles! And the cyclists have priority over all cars and pedestrians.....you have to be sooo careful walking around....they are fast and own the roads and sidewalks! There are no fat people in Amsterdam because they don't own cars and have to cycle or walk to work....they share cars and they have little cars that you can use your Visa card to swipe windscreen and the car door opens and you basically rent the car and drop it off where you land.... They have electric cars here to keep pollution at minimum. We had a canal boat ride and it is unreal....so many vessels on canal! It was first day of summer holidays and first sunny day so everyone was out and about. The canals are in circles and we did the outer two which are the widest! Love this city! Fred had a tour of engine room after tour which he enjoyed. We had a nice last dinner and then retired to pack for our next venture!
