LINDA'S TALES OF TRAVEL AND OTHER CATASTROPHES
I haven't actually done anything exciting since yesterday, but I thought, while I actually have some time and access to the internet, I might write a final message from Sevenoaks.
Firstly, I completely forgot to write that on Thursday night we went to see The Producers at the Drury Lane Theatre in London. I must admit, the mere prospect of going out to the theatre in London had me tickled pink before we even decided on a show! Having said that, I thought The Producers was fantastic: so so wrong and yet so so right! I haven't laughed that much in ages.
And now for my reflections of the trip so far...
I have been so lucky to have been able to stay with some of the most lovely people over here. Not only because it has made the transition so much easier, but also because I have been able to experience 'real' English life. It is such a different experience to stay with people who call England home, and to see how they go about their lives.
I have also been lucky in that the English summer has really excelled itself this year! The panic attack some of the English are having about the 'heat wave' has been quite amusing: tar on roads melting, public transport overheating, lots of burnt bodies...oh, and the classic warning from some health expert that suncream is only really effective if you don't actually rub it in? Excuse me? Coming from a country much closer to the ozone hole, I think we know a thing or two about suncream application, and suncream is made to be rubbed in! If I wanted layers of gunk on my face I'd wear zinc (a la Warnie!).
The only other comment I want to make before I go is to express my sadness at the Lebanon/Israel conflict. Wars are never pleasant affairs (obviously), but the paticularly heinous acts being carried out against innocent civilians at the moment really is disturbing. I'll never understand how killing others can be viewed as achieving some 'greater good'. Anyway, it really puts our little lives into perspective, and renews my determination to make every minute count.
Best wishes to you all and apologies in advance for limited journal entries while I'm away on my tour (I'm sure you understand!).
