Today was our last full day, (for now), in Kurow. We enjoyed again what has become our daily routine.
Getting up around 8am, getting dressed, having tea or a 'flat white' then cereal, toast or whatever. (A 'flat white' is what the Kiwi's call their coffee because of how they make it. Sort of a cross between a capuccino and a regular coffee. It's very good!!) Steve & Fenella's children go off to school...we have another tea/coffee and then get out to the vines around 9:30. Today, we tacked down the nets with things that look like those plastic bread clips. These, however, are specially made for vineyards and are biodegradable. We break around 1p for lunch...today it was homemade soup & homemade bread. Then, we work till 6p or so. When we come in from the vineyard we go off to our rooms to shower and get cleaned up, and then get together again around 7p or so to have a glass of wine and chat and have dinner. It's a nice relaxing rythm to the day.
The weather turned cloudly and autumnal around midday with a gusty wind and a definate chill in the air. So windy, in fact, that I gave up on my hat as it kept blowing off my head. Looks like it could actually rain tonight; we'll see.
Also, in the last day or so another Helpx'er has joined us. She's a nice young woman in her early twenties from Canada. It's the first time we've met someone else who's doing what we're doing and it's been interesting to compare notes. She's a trained chef and treated us all to an apricot tart for desert last night. It was wonderful!! Tonight she's whipping up a "tiper cake' which is a unique take on a marble cake. It'll be a vanilla and orange chocolate cake prepared in the pan in a special way where when you cut it it looked like zebra stripes. Sounds cool, huh??!! I'll let you know. I watched too, so may give it a go sometime.
It's been a great week here at Sublime wines. Tomorrow we'll drive up to Christchurch to return our rental car. I think we'll be moving on to another Helpx place on the coast for the weekend. We'll see!
All for now!
