Hello again!
Sorry for the lengthy silence but we'e been out of internet contact and on the move again. So much to catch up on...all good!!
After leaving Maggie's in Masterton we took the ferry from Wellington over to Picton. Our crossing was smooth but cloudy & raining much of the journey so the scenery wasn't as dramatic as it might have been. Still beautiful, though!
Upon arriving in Picton, we were met by our next Helpx hosts, Lyn & Trevor. They live in a place called Double Cove just outside Picton...check it out on Google Earth. There is no road to their house so we travelled by speed boat to get there. Their place is what most of us would think of as an idyllic summer hideaway...serene, isolated, magnificant views & more. Lucky them, they live there full time! Their house, newly built 10 years ago sits high atop a hill and has a wrap-around deck overlooking the cove. They also have a little cottage on the property which was their summer home for 30 years before they retired. That's where we stayed...in the 'Bach' as they call it.
The Bach which was about 300 feet from their place had 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, shower room w/washer and a huge deck. Very comfortable! You can see from our pictures that the view was amazing!
Lyn & Trevor were really nice people and we enjoyed getting to know them and their family. They needed help splitting & stacking wood for the winter. A few hours work each day while we were there and they were all set. In our off time, Lyn & Trevor took us around the cove in the boat to feed the fish and see the sights. We also took their kayak out one afternoon for a couple of hours...it was incredible!
While Lyn wasn't much on mussels, Trevor liked them and taught us how to get them off the pier. He, Pat & I feasted on the freshes mussels I've ever had. We had a bucket full for an appetizer w/dinner and then I made up another bunch in a salad for our lunch. mmmmm!!!
Our next stop will be a vineyard further South! Until then!
