Sunday 12th - arrived from Chiang Mai into the heat of Phuket at Karon Beach. Had a walk into 'Kata' and a nice meal! Monday 13th - moved our bits and bobs into a cheap guesthouse and had to do some boring washing (Dan really smells!) and then lazed on the beach. In the evening we went back into Patong - yuck! Its changed a bit since we were here 3 years ago! Not only from the Tsunami but the number of tourists is amazing! Tuesday 14th March - Booked our bust tickets to take us to Ko Samui costing a whopping 13 pounds each for an 11hour journey!! Spent the day walking around Karon and Kata searching for the perfect beach spot but it turns out they are all lovely Wednesday 15th March - Went on a trip to the James Bond Island - prety much a big rock but it was cool to compare the film to the island. However, there were no weird weapons popping out from the top of the rock or any midgets trying to kill us! Stopped on the way to a cool Budda cave where monkeys ran around and also went on a long boat ride along the river. Back to Karon beach late so had a late Thai curry! Thursday 16th March - Went into Phuket Town by local bus (what an experience!) to have a look around the markets and shops. The only annoying thing about Thailand is when you want to ask for directions before being bombarded with offers of a 'lift'. It makes walking 3km a real pain! After a stressful morning we spent the rest of the day on the beach and in the weirdly warm sea. Friday 17th - Up early to leave for Samui. The bus picked us up from the hostel and then took us to another bus, which was rammed and I ended up sitting in the front on top of the boiling hot engine! That bus took us to Surat Thani where someone tried to sell us hotels, tours etc and then a bus took us to a coach and then the coach dropped us off at the ferry (you get the picture!). When we arrived we got the local bus not knowing where we were - where we were going, with nowhere to stay! Luckily we had our bible (The Lonely Planet Book) and got dropped off in the main town and walked for 10min to a little guest house - a matress on the floor - but it has air con so I dont care!
