Having had a fantastic dose of lovely countryside in Salento, we headed in to Cali in search of a little weekend mayhem before going on to Popayan and San Augustin.
Rob, Lucy and Aussie Kate finally found a Salsa bar and the ladies found lots of willing men to show them some nifty moves.
We also attended an anti-FARC rally. This was organised by the people, originating in a Facebook campaign. However the media and government had clearly picked up on it and backed it to the hilt. Everyone of course is genuinely concerned about the FARC, but the problems with the paramilitaries was conspicuous by its absence. Likewise, there was a strange abundance of anti-Chavez posters, linking him in a Saddam-BinLaden style to the FARC. Chavez, of course, was the appointed negotiator in the recent release of hostages by FARC, much to the chagrin of the Colombian government
THe other hightlight was the trip to San Ignacio, half way between Cali and the coast. THis jungle-based village was only accessible by "Moto-train", an ingenious bench on wheels powered by a motorbike. It used a full yoperational railway line , so we all hoped that they were experienced at getting the contraption off the tracks when they heard a train approaching.
Once there we did find the place a bit of a tourist trap, however this was made up for by a fantastic tubing experience down their river. It went on for ages, down exhilerating rapids in the heart of the jungle. However it went on for so long that it got dark and we faced the daunting prospect of a night in the jungle. Luckily we found our way out in the dark and returned to Cali, ready to move on for our next adventure.
