An early start .... 6am, from our Tuscany retreat to our Amalfi coast exploration. A good 6 hour drive, which wasn't really that bad as it was mainly motorway, cooler part of the day and for most of it some good tunes on the radio.... The top summer hit in Italy must be Lean On by Major Lazer because it was played a lot and to be fair a good tune so we have downloaded it as one of our travel songs.... A further list can be supplied by request!!!
We arrived at Vico Equense with time to kill before picking up keys for apt in a little town 3km up the mountain, the heat was building and the excitement of being near the sea was too much!!! So I drove to find the spaggio (beach) and managed by miracle to find a car park space 30 meters from the sea. But I did have to navigate the narrowest, windy road with Sarah shouting 'stop!' 'You idiot!' And other explicits I can't type!!! About the Italian drivers who are crazy!!! You can see by the photo in the album for this day that Sarah was then on a mission to just walk into the sea when we got out of the car..... Caption competition open!!!
After a dip of feet, ice cream, cold drink and rest in the shade we made our way to the meeting place for our keys.
The journey went like this .... Narrow, hair pin roads to wider hair pin coast road to narrow, uphill roads to Bar Massa in the town of Moiano. We met our host who took us to the apt one min down the road and we settled in... After such a tiring day traveling we decided to eat out and ventured into our little town to find somewhere, wandering the narrow streets it was mayhem... Rush hour had hit where the locals must come home from down the mountain or go out for the evening into the main town down the mountain.... Beeping horns and cars negotiating passing each other on roads wide enough for one car... We just laughed at the craziness!!! Looking for somewhere to eat was a little harder than we anticipated. We found shops that sold everything from tiles, meat, cheese, groceries to sports shops and hair dressers, there was even a takeaway fresh pasta shop! Eventually we decided to get takeaway pizza from 'pizza taxi' amazing watching pizza being made in front of you the traditional way (see photos) and was massive for 7€....dominos take note!!!
I then ventured into a shop to get red wine....' Last of the summer wine ' type shop where the shop keeper I joked has never left the village!!! (I suppose you had to be there but it amused us!)
Back home we ate and drank and deeted up for the night. Sarah did some research for our beach day on the Amalfi coast and an early morning would be required to guarantee best place for a quality day so an early night was had!
