I'm a day late writing this because I had a huge food baby that made me sleepy last night.
Yesterday morning we had a very early start (1.45am). We had an early flight to catch to in Boston - with a two hour layover in New York. It actually took the full two hours to get our bags, and recheck them in and get to the gate at JFK. Insane.
We finally got to Boston at 10.40am. It was raining, windy and dull. Once we'd dumped our bags at the room, I decided I was going to go to check out Harvard University - being the geek that I am. Being as though I was alone I went the easy way - via the trolley tour.
It took me a while to find the trolley tour - I got lost in residential streets a few times. But finally came across it and as I didn't have a ticket the driver took pity on me, picked me up and stopped at the ticket office for me.
When I got to Harvard I had a nosey around looking for one of the guided tours. After 45 mins I gave up and was going to head back. That was until I found it, having walked past it a few times. Doh.
The walking tour was led by a Harvard student. He showed me around campus and told us tales of the history of Harvard and the traditions that still exist today. Don't touch the Harvard statue - it gets pee'd on by freshmen, there is a room with a ghost in the library - the ghost of a guy who died on Titanic, we saw where Mark Zuckerberg lived on campus - the home of Facebook, JFK's dorms, Obama, Matt Damon, Natalie Portman and Bill Gates. The guide told us about his school fees... $57,000 per year!!
After the tour I jumped back on the bus and went back to our room. We had decided to 'whilst in Rome' and go for seafood for dinner. The bus driver had given me a recommendation so we went with it.
We went to a restaurant called Daily Catch - in Seaport. It was delicious!! I don't normally eat seafood, as most of you will know. For starter I ordered calamari squid and garlic bread. Although they brought out shrimp scampi - so we ended up with a free starter whilst they replaced it.
For main I ordered broiled haddock which was haddock but in a garlic butter and very thin breadcrumbs (or some sort of crumb), along with roasted vegetables. Kerry had lobster. All I could think of was poor Sebastian from the Little Mermaid.
We were soooooo full that when we got back to the room we went to sleep.
Today we're going whale watching on a catamaran. I'm hoping it stays dry - it looks dull out there right now.
