Hi all sorry its been so long we have been a bit busy.
We flew from Saigon to Chiang mai in the north of Thailand which is known for its elephant trekking. When we arrived we got a taxi to our hostel which had been recommended to Ash by a friend so we thought we would be ok. We were in a mixed dorm and it all looked ok until we saw the bathroom!!!! At this point I wanted to check out and move somewhere and anywhere, there was no flush on the toilet, you cant put toilet papaer down the toilet out here and the shower was over the toilet. It was bad and we were sharing with 2 boys who we didnt know.
Ashley calmed me down and we went to sit in the massive communal area outside which was really nice and comfy. We got chatting to a couple from England who offered to take us to the Night Bazzar which was massive. I was telling them about my issue with the bathroom and they said that the communal bathrooms had flushing toilets so that was it i never used ours.
The Night Bazzars took hours to get round there were hundreds of markets stalls most sell the same thing but u have to hunt to get the best price. We didnt buy much just some food. Ash wants 1 corn on the cob and ended up with 3, slight miss communication we think. There were also some really cute puppies fors ale and rabbits we bought 2 of each and are in quarentine as we speak!!!!! Only joking.
The next day we just had a chill out day and wandered round Chaing Mai although there was only temples within walking distances and once you have seen one you have seen them all. We also booked our trip for the next day.
We got picked up at 8.30 for our trip to see the elephants at the nature park. Its a charity set up by a local lady who rescues abused and injured elephants. You can only book through them so all the money you pay goes straight to them. This was more expensive than other trips and you dont get to ride the elphants but it was worth the 2500baht (50 pounds).
We arrived at the nature park about 10 having watched a video about some of the elephants and there stories it was so sad. People use elephants to beg in the cities like Bangkok but luckily we didnt see any while we were there.
The first thing we did was have our picture taken with an elephant it was quite happy just standing there eating. Then we got to feed an elephant me and Ash ended up with one on our own which was good. It loved watermelon but wasnt so keen on pumpkin or courgettes cant blame her really. Then it was the proper feeding time so we got to feed another elephant although this one was really slow and took forever so the elephant next to her started eating her food as well.
After this it was our turn for lunch and we had a really nice buffet lunch where you could eat as much as you liked.
We then changed to go down to the river and bathe the elephants, which involved throwing buckets of water over them, when one had had enough it would get out and more would appear. We were in the river for about an hour and a half. Then we got to watch the baby family wash we werent allowed to get in with them as the family would get really defensive. We did get some photos with the babies later though.
It was feeding time again which was brill although a little bit messy. Then bath time again I didnt get in this time but Ash did. It seems a bit pointless though as you get them all clean and they go straight away to roll in mud.
It was a long day but absolutly amazing and our best yet!
The hostel wasnt as bad as i first thought so i would recommend it now!!!!
We left the next day on another flight to Bangkok to make our way to the famous full moon party.
