After yet another fun night bus journey, Vince, Tom and I arrived in HCMC (Saigon). Today was New Year's Eve in Vietnam (they call New Year Tet).
After a brief nap we headed to the War Remnants Museum. Quite a lot of propaganda in there but some very moving stories and photos, especially in respect to Agent Orange which is still having effects now. One thing that stood out to me was a letter from a second generation Agent Orange victim to Barack Obama (I'll put a photo of it in my pictures).
Because it was NYE tonnes of stuff in the city was closed so it took us ages to find somewhere to eat. Luckily the backpacker area was still lively so headed out down there (just behind the guesthouse we were staying it).
Got stopped on the street by a Texan man (who was most definitely on something!) in a Bermuda shirt and straw hat who convinced us to go to a texmex restaurant which turned out to be pretty good. Headed to the Vietnam Inn (hostel Tom and some others were staying in) roof terrace bar to watch the fireworks. Had my first glass of wine in a few weeks - was local, from Dalat and wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!
