Day 247- We woke and changed rooms in to a slightly cheaper one which wasn't available the night before. We had some breakfast in the hotel but it wasn't that good. We did some work in the hotel before heading out. We walked round the corner from our hotel in search of some more tailors and straight away we noticed 'Micky's', the Czech couple on our Ha Long Bay boat trip had their clothes made there and they were beautiful. We popped in to look at some materials and styles and straight away we received a much better vibe than 'Kimmy's'. Before we knew it we had been in there well over an hour and we were getting measured up, I had chosen some materials and described what I wanted for a blazer, a shirt and a blouse and Lloyd had designed a blazer and picked some materials for some ties and a white shirt. We left feeling extremely excited and crossed the road for an early lunch, Lloyd got some Lao Cai (egg noodles with pork and veg) and I got some beef noodle soup. I had seen an Asian style dress as we left Micky's and at £20 I thought it was a must so we popped back to pick materials and order. We walked down in to the old town, the place was quite quiet and it was beautiful walking around. We went to the Japanese bridge and crossed in to the little street, there was so much amazing artwork on sale at little shops. We walked and walked and went in and out of tailors as Lloyd was still after another shirt but we just couldn't find the pattern he had in mind. After a lot of searching we spotted exactly what he was looking for and he got measured up. It was getting late so we walked back towards our hotel and stopped for food at the same place we had lunch, the only problem with Hoi An is because nearly every building is a tailors, there are not many places to eat. Lloyd got Vietnam style pork chops and rice and I got some garlic prawn pasta - pretty western food for a change. We had a bit more walk around our area before retiring for the night.
Day 248- We were so excited for our first fitting we just couldn't wait but we couldn't go till 10am. We both wanted some shoes making so we walked along to the highest rated shoe shop. The second we walked in the lady said 'you come because you see us on trip advisor?' This was true but we denied it, they think they can hike the price up if they are in guide books or on review sites. We showed them our designs and straight away she said she couldn't do what I wanted - yes I'm fussy but my design wasn't that hard but she said no. Lloyd showed her his and she said it would be 'same same but different' he didn't want different then out of nowhere a massive mouse ran from the stock room - who knows who's poor shoes they had been nibbling on. After they quoted a price of $50 for the same same but different shoes we decided to leave. We found a local joint for breakfast - some noodle soup and then headed to Micky's. We tried on our clothes and were over the moon. We had a few things here and there that needed changing, everything was slightly too big but they make it that way so they can make them smaller. Lloyd mentioned shoes and Micky said she could make shoes no problem, Lloyd showed his design and she said she could make exactly the same for $40 so he gave in and picked the style of leather. We walked round to the second tailors so Lloyd could try his shirt, it was just what he wanted but they had made the neck far too tight so he told them and agreed to come back that evening. We left and hired some bikes to cycle to the beach. When we arrived we were pulled over by lots of women all telling us to park our bikes at their stall and demanding a high price, we were appalled and tried to ride down to the beach but we were stopped and told we were not allowed bikes any further. I walked down to see the beach, it was a nightmare, covered in sunbeds and the second I stepped on the beach I had women waving and shouting at me trying to sell me a bed - hassle. We were also not prepared to pay for the parking so we rode along the coast and found a little lane, we cycled down and saw the beach. We locked up our bikes and walked down - perfect hardly a sole about. We found a good spot and did a bit of sunbathing, it was beautiful. We read our books and dipped in the sea, it was one of the loveliest seas we have ever been in- so warm. We walked up to a little beach bar and had enough money to buy a club sandwich and a bowl of garlic potatoes to share with a drink each. We did a bit of reading in the shade and another dip in the sea before cycling back. Back at the hotel we had just enough time to jump in the shower before our second fitting. We walked round and we over the moon with the results, I still wanted a bit doing to my blouse and wanted my dress taking in more and Lloyd wanted the shoulder pads taking out of his blazer so we weren't quite done yet. We walked round to the second tailors and the shirt was done, the sleeves were too baggy though so the woman altered them there and then on her sewing machine, it took her seconds to take them in- amazing. We were at the riverside so found a lovely little restaurant for tea just as the sun was setting. We wandered back to our hotel and the receptionist who was our age started talking to us about her boyfriend and her heartbreak, she was so lovely and after 3 hours we were ready for bed.
Day 249- We were up early to attend our final fitting, we had breakfast in the hotel then walked round to Micky's. Everything was just as we wanted it apart from Lloyd's blazer which still had shoulder pads in (they put in smaller ones as Micky didn't want to take them out as the blazer would lose shape but I wanted a casual blazer and it still appeared to boxy) and I wanted a button sewing, so we planned to pick up them up that afternoon. We went for a coffee and caught up with our blog and diary. We walked to An Hoi, a little islet, as we crossed the bridge we sensed a much more local and traditional atmosphere, it was lovely but not much to see. We walked around the centre exploring every street, we went to a few temples here and there which were nice and before we knew it it was 2pm and we had to pick up our clothes. This time everything was perfect and Lloyd's shoes were done. He tried them on but one of them was a bit slack, she told us to wait and her sister scooted off on a moped with the shoes, 10 mins later she was back and they fitted perfect- amazing. We asked about delivery back to the UK as we knew our new purchases wouldn't fit in our bags, we were quoted $60 which we didn't want to pay so we said our goodbyes and went in search of a new bag. After a lot of searching we found they most beautiful hand stitched holdall for about $10, beautiful bag and a 6th of the price of airmail. We trotted back to the hotel and grabbed some lunch at a restaurant round the corner. We cracked on with some work till 5:30pm when we were picked up and taken to our sleeper bus to Nha Trang.
