Day 252- We were up early and for the third and final time we ordered a pork baguette for breakfast from the street vendor down the road. We jumped on our mini-bus and were driven round a number of hotels picking up other guests then eventually, dropped off at the travel agency. Here we boarded our bus to Da Lat, it was very slow and we arrived about 1pm. Conveniently we were dropped off at a hotel and a man boarded the bus to welcome us and tell us about the rooms in the hotel. We decided to look as we didn't have a place booked. The rooms were cheap enough and we paid a bit more to have a room with a bigger window as the cheap rooms stank of foist. As we left the man tried to sell us every tour under the sun but we somehow managed to escape. We decided to go to the 'Crazy House', we knew it wasn't far but we didn't have a map so we jumped in a taxi. Once we paid in the heavens opened and it started chucking it down. This didn't stop us running around up and down the crazy stairs looking at all the amazing guest rooms. Basically it is an obscure hotel connected by stairways with crazy 'Alice in Wonderland' themed rooms you can stay in, their was a lot of construction happening for expansion but once it is finished it will be an amazing place to stay. The rain eventually disappeared and we decided to walk back now we knew the way. We stopped at a local joint for a coffee, it was so strong but amazing, they even brought out a pot of green tea for us to drink while it brewed. As we left and walked around we saw a woman sitting on the curb making some find of pancakes so we sat down and got two, they were amazing, egg with pork- yummy. We needed to book our bus tickets to Saigon so asked about, everyone was quoting the high price of $12 so we decided to look for the bus station. We had an idea of which part of the city it was in but with no map we soon got lost, we asked a few locals but no one could speak enough English. We eventually gave up and headed back to the hotel to admit defeat and book it there. For dinner we had heard of a really highly recommended restaurant ran by a famous Vietnamese artist. The restaurant was called 'The Art Cafe' and it also sold the amazing Da Lat wine. We gave in to a bottle of white and I ordered Prawns in clay pot while Lloyd got Squid stuffed with minced pork. We even went as far as getting a caramel flan with coconut ice-cream to share. The artist came over a painted us a picture each using his special technique. The pictures were drawn using his fingers and ink, they were incredible and such a lovely and personal souvenir. The food was also amazing and we were over the moon with our evening.
Day 253- We had a lie in and went down for our free breakfast. The lady came over and said 'fried eggs or scrambled' I answered '2 fried eggs please' she then confirmed 'one scrambled, one fried' 'No No, 2 fried eggs' I corrected her, 'so scrambled and fried' 'no, just fried eggs' I corrected her again. She walked away and returned about 15 minutes later with one fried egg and one scrambled. Annoyed I told her 'we ordered two fried eggs' and she looked at me and said 'ohh you wanted fried' 'Yes, but it doesn't matter' she had somehow managed to half scramble the fried egg anyway so there was no yoke - the best bit, one massive lesson we have learnt in Asia is that Asian people never listen, this is a regular occurrence. We ate our badly made breakfast laughing at what had just happened and then checked out. The man asked many questions even trying to get us to stay longer in Da Lat telling us how bad Saigon was just so we would book on to one of our tours. We left and went in search of a laptop charger as we STILL didn't have one after it had melted for the third time on Cat Ba Island, they first shop we walked in to had what we were looking for and only £1 - Bingo. We walked to the market. It was a great, really local, no souvenir stalls of tourist nonsense just Vietnamese people selling there goods, we picked up some Lychees and some peanut brittle and walked to the lake. It was such a hot day and we found a nice patch of grass. We ate our Lychees and peanut brittle which turned out to be ginger flavour much to Lloyd's delight. We sat for a good hour watching the snakes in the lake swim about. We continued our walk and stumbled upon the flower garden, I love flowers so this was not a one to miss. We paid the small fee and had a walk around, it was very quiet and the flowers were so beautiful and colourful, a real treat. After we walked round the rest of the lake and by this point we were pretty hungry and found a little place selling beef noodle soup, it was really good. We walked back to the hotel where we charged our laptop and spent about 3 hours catching up with the blog as we had managed to fall quite far behind thanks to the charger. We wandered down the road and had more noodle soup but this time with shrimp and quail egg which was a nice change. Before we knew it the night bus was there and we were on our way to Saigon.
