Day 39 The long journey had worn us out and we still had to find our way to the hostel, we had limited directions but followed as best as we could. It turned out to be a disaster. The first bus we jumped on we had no idea where to get off or how many stops to stay on for, we were only told to look out for a train station, we did that and after an hour we got kicked off the bus as it terminated. So we found a cafe with wi-fi and bought some lovely pastry's as we looked up new directions. Here we realised the bus passed the back of the station and we were now on the other side of the city. So from our new directions we got on the number 8, little did we know the air conditioned number 8 takes a different route to the non air conditioned 8. So after typically boarding the wrong one, we jumped off after several stops and found the right one, then the bus didn't stop where we expected it to meaning we had backtrack about 2km. Finally we found our hostel, we were shattered but also starving so set out for food, after 30 mins we couldn't find anywhere reasonably priced so gave in for a second time to the easy, cheap option of McDonald's. We then managed to find our way to Hefang street where the old shops and temples are therefore making it the tourist hub of the city. This is where we also stumbled across the old chemist which still prescribes ancient herbal therapies. Here we tried what we thought was a super tea full of healthy remedies, it wasn't however good for our taste buds (Eve managed a mouthful but I pursued a bit further hoping for super strength or to wake up with good eyesight or something) but thankfully it was free.
Day 40 An early start was needed as we planned to walk round West Lake and as we were leaving we got talking to a woman from Taiwan, she spoke about her many travels and then suggested we try some sticky rice she ate form just down the road. So after saying farewell we munched our way through sticky rice and tofu (not the normal slimy stuff but a different type that is firm and a lot nicer) and walked towards Su Causeway. The lake was huge and it was amazing how many causeways were constructed just because the person in power at the time wanted something named after them, yet it makes for a beautiful walk so we didn't complain. It took about two hours to get to the top and felt it was definitely dinner time. We were happy to find a trusty Muslim restaurant which again didn't fail us and after ogling into the Cartier and Mont Blanc shop windows we continued our walk within an ice-cream in hand. It was a perfect sunny day and the relaxing walk was just what we needed, just making it back to the hostel as the sun was setting. The past few days had been expensive with the previous places being really touristy so found another cheap cafe for dumplings and noodles. We always find these small cafes (what we call the 'white tile cafe') being the best anyway.

James Sounds like you's are still having an amazing time! Your really near to Yangzhou which is where my uncle worked I'm pretty sure! The blog is great love reading it x
Eve Purdy Yangzhou was gorgeous and very livable so I wouldn't be surprised, quite a bit of western influence and very fancy!! xoxox
Lloyd Potts Hi James, just to let you know we went to Yangshuo in the south, not Yangzhuo which is just above Shanghai, everything is spelt so similiar here its hard to keep up. Yangzhuo is meant to be really nice aswell but we arent going there but is probably where your Uncle worked as Yangshuo is purely for tourists! x
