Day twenty!
Another busy day in the clinic today - I left Alice with Dr Hope at 6.50 this morning and effectively haven't stopped since! It seems that amazingly the patients only continued to arrive for an hour after official closing time today, so fingers crossed for a quiet evening! I think it means that there will be lots of call outs for the people on call tonight though; I am covering women's business (the local term for all problems remotely related to anything to do with female anatomy or problems) but hopefully the 20million I have seen already will mean there are non left for later!
Lots of medical firsts today - took blood from an HIV positive patient, and had to work really hard to stop myself shaking... so stupid I know but I couldn't help worrying about a needlestick! I also gave IM injections to a 6 weeker, gave enought depo injections to stop the world from pregnancy(!) and treated a 15year old girl for pelvic inflammatory disease! Who knows what tomorrow will bring!
Yesterday I went to the Alice Springs desert park which was really really good. Lots of birds, including the best birds of prey display I have ever seen, some dingos and lots of kangaroos (the novelty is yet to wear off!). A really good day out, and it was nice to spend some time in the sunshine (and yes, I did get a little-teeny-weeny bit burnt).
Lots of love, xxxxx
