Day fourteen (my birthday!)

Thanks everyone for the lovely messages :) Sorry I'm not around as an excuse for a party!

Santa Teresa is very warm and sunny - I don't think I've been anywhere this hot for my birthday since the day I was born!!!

The doctor is in the clinic for a couple of days this week, which is great - it means I'm gettins some good teaching as well as the medical experience.Yesterday was manically busy and I worked a 13 hour day without a break! Today has been much quieter though, and aside from scabies, chlamydia (in a patient who has had an STI 10(!) times before!) and a bleeding sty I have had an easy day - we had ice cream and chocolate and cake (but not for me!) at luchtime and everyone sang, definately a better birthday than I was expecting!

Sunday in Alice I saw some more tourist attractions; we walked out to the telegraph station which was really interesting and I even managed a few hours lying by the pool in the sun! Hardly a bad life!

Medically I think the only thing of real note is a 4 year old boy who was both wasted and stunted; not because he was being abused but simply because the family had no idea what to feed him (for the medics out there he also had kwashiokor)... really sad, and a big lesson in patient education, as well as the merit of the growth chart!
