12 Today we left longreach and travelled along the Capricorn Highway (named as it runs along the tropic of capricorn). We stopped at Barcaldine - a little town 100km east of Longreach and saw the tree of knowledge - a monument to a real tree that once stood in the same spot. We then continued through Jericho and Alpha before driving through the Gemfields to Emerald. Tonight we are staying at Lake Maraboon which is around 3 times the size of Sydney harbour. It's around a 100 metre walk to the lake from the campsite. A quiet caravan park so a nice pitstop for the night. Next stop: Carnarvon Gorge
