Lin & Phil - Out and About in the Big World...
Hi everyone,
So we've met up with Tom. He seemed as chocked as we first were when we first arrived in Delhi. He'd spent the day on a cycle rickshaw looking at all the wonderful and weird stuff you'll see in Delhi. But after only one day he was pretty fed up with the pollution and so were we. We were quite relived we had a flight to Goa the next day.
In Goa, we decided to spend one night in Panaji to explore Old Goa the following morning. before sunset we went on a river cruise thinking it would be a nice sightseeing tour. We couldn't have been more wrong. As soon as the boat took off a DJ started to play cheesy music and a ukrainian couple were performing rumba, the tango on the stage. Some of the indian tourists were loving it but we looked more surprised than anything else. At the end of the cruise the DJ had managed to get most of the indian tourists up on the stage and the were all trying to co-ordinate them selves so they were doing the same moves. One thing is definitely true about the indians, the love to dance and sing (no alcohol required here).
Old Goa was quite spectacular. It's completely different to any other place in India. It has lots of catholic churches and Portuguese buildings. Very colourful. With a degree in history, Tom was definitely loving it. Phil earned some extra man points again by making a good deal with a local taxi driver to take us down to South Goa. So later on that afternoon we went on a 60 km drive down to Palolem in South Goa. Our taxi driver turned out to be really sound and quite a little tour guide too. We found out all sorts about Goa along the way.
When we got to Palolem we were not disappointed. It's described as 'Paradise found' in the Lonely Planet. This is not a bad description. However, if you think you'll find an undeveloped beach all for your self than you're mistaking. Palolem Beach is filled with little beach huts all along the beach. It seems to low season here at the moment so it's not too crowded though. Another pleasant surprise, especially for Phil, was the food. Here most restaurants serve all sorts of meat. Not surprisingly, Phil's had two big steaks two nights in a row now. So don't you worry Chris, you're boy is eating fine now.
Today we've spent most of day on the beach. Tom bought a cricket bat and started playing with Phil on the beach. Suddenly an indian kid joined in. Then more and more people came up and wanted to play too. In the end it was a pretty awesome atmosphere with both indians and tourists playing together. I managed to a bit of fielding until Tom hit the ball really hard on my arm. I got a big red mark from where the ball had hit me. I reallised this wasn't the game for me, so I put my cricket career on the shelf, and happily went for a swim instead.
Keep in touch everyone,
Linda
