Lin & Phil - Out and About in the Big World...
We decided to leave Jodhpur after only 2 days due to pollution mainly - our boggies turned black again - never a good sign.
Cought a taxi for the 5 hour journey west to the desrt town of Jaisalmer. We have stayed at a nice guest house recommended to us by someone we talked to in Jodhpur, best hosts yet, its called fifu's guesthouse. We explored the little town and had some mashed potatoe (yes were still struggling with the food) before heading to bed.
We were woke at 7.30am by the sound of fighter planes flying above our heads. Were only 100km's from the Packistan border and they do this every day! Think theyre russian MIG's - is this right Andy?
Weve been checking out the living fort, which houses 3000 people. Its full of tiny side steets selling everything under the sun.
Yesterday i woke up and looked out of the window to check the weather - a routine i do all the time at home but its pointless here its either sunny, sunny or sunny - no clouds, nothing else! But its too hot we are indoors between 12.00 and 15.00. We went on a jeep and camel safari yesterday - It would have been better if the driver spoke better english, we went to a few villages, gardens and burial grounds and then headed out to the sand dunes. I was a little surprised when i met my camel driver, he was about waist hight and 9 years old - but an excellent driver! It was really nice but a little scary when we went for a couple of hours ad hadnt seen civiisation for ages! did you know camels wee and drink at the same time? i didnt! Camels were awesome both called gumba. The journey wasnt as bumpy as youd imagine and the lonely planet is wrong - the camels here are not flatulent - but do poo when theyre walking.
Weve left fifu guest house and are now staying at a place with a pool for only 7 pounds a night! put lin through the torture of watching the Chelsea - Barcalona game and now i owe her big time.
Quote of the day - ' i cant believe were going on some camels - how primitive' Phil before he got on the camel.
