Nervous Turkey!
Hips in tatters, we were unable to escape the icy blast of the airport air conditioning and both woke up at 4am shivering uncontrollably. We were boarding our flight to Langkawi at 8.10am so we still had a bit of a wait. The only means of getting warm was to drink Starbucks.
The short flight to Langkawi was over in no time but then a problem arose. We didn't know how to get to our accommodation and neither did any of the taxi drivers on the island. It was slightly worrying that nobody had heard of the place we had booked but we got in and hoped for the best. During the journey the driver kept pulling over and asking for directions but after numerous wrong turns we just cruised the streets with our eyes peeled. It was the Yorkshireman's eyes that won the challenge as Matt spotted the 'White Cottage Chalets' down a hidden dirt track. On first impressions we are in luck yet again. Brand new buildings that are clean and spacious. After all the bad trip advisor reviews we were relieved. First job was to rig the mosquito net up as it just makes the nights sleep more comfortable. This time it looks like a contraption from Home Alone as we have bungee cords spanning the room for fixings.
This afternoon was spent with Matt sleeping on the cloud like bed and Char sorting out our life and completing some admin/planning 'we' needed to do. Once we felt human again we took a walk to take in what the island was like and our first stop was watching parasailing on the beach. It was frightening to watch as the tourists were barely strapped in and the staff (looking no older than 15) were holding on to the parachute, with no harness, as they were pulled high above the water to control the ride. We have managed to book our onward flight from Langkawi to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon, Vietnam) which has a 13 hour overnight stop in Singapore Airport. Our prayers have being answered. No, it was honestly the best we could find..... honestly. M & C xxxx
