After a great week in Chiang Mai I was missing the beach, so I decided to travel south-east of Bangkok to Koh Samet for a few days of relaxing before meeting Gabby and Natalie. I caught the overnight 4pm train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and was plesantly surprised when I found I was in a comfortable cabin with two other women, on a bed much more comfortable than any others I had slept in whilst in Thailand!! Although, the air conditioning was on so high the Thai lady in the bed adjacent put on a jumper, scarf and hat!! (I had to put on socks and a hoodie) The journey was long and the train arrived nearly 2 hours late in Bangkok, despite the fact it left Chaing Mai on time.
Once I arrived, I caught a 4 hour minibus south and then ferry across to Koh Samet island. After finding a nice guesthouse I headed to the beach for a few hours.
The next few days I did nothing more than eat, sleep and sunbathe.... absolute bliss. Although there were a lot of tourists, the beach was beautiful with gorgeous white sand and unlike any other beach I had been on in Thailand. A welcome excuse to do absolutely nothing before my final week travelling and meeting up with the girls.
