I was really excited to meet up with Gabby and Natalie after such a long time without seeing anyone from home. I left Koh Samet bright and early, arriving at the hotel on Koh San Road by 2pm. It was absolute luxury in comparison to the other places I had been staying.
The girls arrived just before 9pm and after dumping their stuff we went for food and a couple of cocktails to welcome them to Thailand.
The next day we relaxed by the roof top pool for a couple of hours and then headed to the Grand Palace. We got in by the skin of our teeth, as entry was stopped at 3:30pm and we got there with 5 minutes to spare (we didnt realise it closed quite that early). However, despite me putting on leggings under my shorts to cover my knees they wouldn't let me in with them, as it was the same as wearing "stockings" apparently?! So I had to hire a wrap around skirt to wear.
After running around to get tickets and my skirt we finally took our tickets to the gate to enter. Gabby was then sent away as although her shoulders were covered by a scarf that wasn't acceptable either! So she came back 5 minutes later with a very attractive short sleeved shirt, which looked like something an old man would wear. We FINALLY got in to see the temple with the golden buddah and all of the other grand buildings inside, including the grand palace.
That night we had a night out on Koh San Road, sharing Sangsom (rum) buckets and eating a fried Scorpion that Natalie and Gabby named John. With dancing and lots of giggles it was a great night out. Although the hangover wasn't....
