Can't believe I've forgotten to mention that most morning when we've been in bed, we get this little knock on the door and then a somebody walks in to empty the bin. Sometimes they don't even knock either.
So today we've got tickets to a New Year's Day festival called Field Day. We haven't been to any of the festivals or spent much on drink at all since we've been here so thought we should have one big blast on New Year's Day. It cost $140 (£95) each though. We had the option of going to Space Ibiza festival too, but there was a few acts we wanted to see at Field Day.
The festival started at 12pm but we knew it'd be expensive for alcohol in there. So, we got ourselves up and had a good fill at breakfast and then stopped off in the park. We cracked open our bottle of bubbly - Passion Pop it's called. Pretty much the cheapest alcohol you can buy. We had plastic cups, wasn't necking it from the bottle. What do you take us for? There were quite a lot of people drinking in the park actually and looked like they were off to the festival.
We headed to the festival at about 3pm. There were so many people on there. Absolutely loads. There seemed to be a lot of Aussies too, more than just general tourists. There's 3 different stages to choose from to.
We wanted to get in to see A-trak and were just in time. He was quality and played some really good songs getting the crowd going.
In between A-trak we went to get a beer. $9 (£6) for a can. Not even a big can. Although there is a $1 deposit on that, which meant we had to take our can back to the recycling point to get a $1 voucher to put towards our next purchase. There was one little recycling tent thousands of people...queue to recycle, queue to buy beer!!!
There was a guy who looked like a young Bruce Willis. Literally. His mates were pointing it out to us. Picture is on Facebook.
There were some really good DJ's playing and the atmosphere was brilliant. Lots of friendly people around out to have a good time. Oh, and I forgot to mention. It was absolutely red hot all day too. Clear blue skies again. They had this walk-in shower spray thing for people to walk through to cool down. I walked through naked. No. But I needed to.
All that heat and dancing made us need more drinks. But this time we spotted a few people with a great idea - collect cans! Everybody was just throwing their cans on the floor. I think most people didn't realise there was a dollar deposit on the can or they just couldn't be arsed. There were loads of people literally taking bags filled with cans. They must have been get 50-100 dollars a time. Our biggest haul was $17, but we got about $40 worth of vouchers through the day. Scruffy I know. But this is what it comes to with these prices as a backpacker. Some people were even collecting all the cans using there t-shirt stretched out - entrepreneurs.
The biggest act I was looking forward to was Duck Sauce - the Armand Van Helden and A-trak collaboration. And probably the most memorable song so far whilst travelling has been the Barbra Streisand one...ooh ooh ooh oooh ooh ooh oooh ooh ooh ooohooohoooh, Barbra Streisand. You know the one. Everybody is singing it all the time and it's on in every bar. They so that aNYway song too. They were quality and the crowd went mad for them.
After that were the Klaxons. They were really good too.
At about 6pm they'd run out of cans of beers, so we had to go on to the more expensive metal bottles. $10 (£6.70) each. Not even funny.
We met a couple called Jenni and Tom at the festival who we've kept in touch with and who we met in Vang Vieng, Laos. We had a drink with them but then after that we all seemed to lose each other. I'd gone to the toilet and then to the bar and then couldn't find anyone for a bit. In the end, I found Therese and we went to get something to eat. We had a pizza to share for $10 which nice, walked back to the dance-floor and decided we were still starving. Well, we'd not eaten much all day! So we went back and got a kebab wrap each. We sat with our kebab wraps and four beers, then this pizza box blew from the other table and knocked our beer over!! Lost 1 and three quarters!! Nearly $20 worth of beer!! So annoying.
We didn't stay until the end and was back for around 10pm. Had a fantastic day though and really glad we did the festival even if it was a bit pricey. It seemed like everyone had gone to the festival too, so glad we didn't miss out.
