Finally used some bacon this morning! Bacon and scrambled egg butty I had. Bloody lovely.
The weather is pretty poor today. Quite cold really and windy with fine rain. We had a few things to sort out anyway so didn't really have time for sightseeing, so it's a good thing it's not cracking the flags!
Ben, the guy I used to work with who we tried to see the other day, was back in work today so we decided to go see him up in The Cross. We were going to get the tube but it was going to be £2.50 each, so we gave it a miss and decided to walk as it only takes about 20 minutes. He gave us some good tips on a few things for Sydney and our travels up the coast which was good. He gave us a pack with discount vouchers for a couple of places as well.
Chatted with him for a bit and organised to meet up with him for a couple of drinks tomorrow night, then made our way back to George Street.
Tell you what we've been doing the past few days as well, going into McDonalds and nicking sachets of sugar. We called in on the way...
The Internet is costing us too much for researching stuff to do and Skype-ing home, so we decided to get an Aussie mobile number. And very handily, the pack that Ben gave us earlier had a free sim card in there as well - saved us $2...it all helps! PAYG with Virgin and for $19 (£14) we get plenty of call credit and text credit (for within Oz) but the main thing is we get 1GB of Internet data. Took a bit of faffing around to get it sorted, but managed to get it all set up - used a computer in the Apple Store for about 30 minutes! Think we'll get banned soon.
We made a big batch of pasta tonight. We had a big jar of Woolworths brand sauce, a big tin of tuna, onion, pepper, sweetcorn plus some paprika and herbs to add a bit more flavour. Oh, and some minced garlic - got that jar free from raiding the leftovers the other day! Didn't taste that cracking, unfortunately.
We bought a bag of grated cheese as well (£4 for a 500g bag!) and stuck that on top so it tasted a bit better. Then when we finished, we realised we'd forgot to add the pesto!! Another item we got in the raid.
If anyone has any good Student/Backpacker meal recipes, send me them! Cheap and cheerful we're looking for.
We'd made enough for another meal each so put the rest in the plastic containers (lunch box things) we'd bought the other day. Looks like that's tomorrows lunch...
Therese video Skyped her brother Lee, Rachael, Josh and Seb tonight. It's brilliant to be able to do that. We can see Josh and baby Seb growing up, which is really nice. Everybody should have video Skype!
