Not again. 6.30am our alarm was going off. But we had to be up early again for round two of getting tickets for the Petronas Twin Towers.
We jumped on the monorail and got to the queue for the towers just before 8am. The queue was massive. Couldn't believe it. There were about 150 people there. It doesn't even open until 9am. At about 8.30am a guy was coming round asking for details and how many tickets. By the time he got to us, we were something like ticket number 350. People were queuing and getting tickets for others too, so there were more people ahead of us than it looked! And then we realised that we were queuing to get a ticket to come back at a specific time slot.
Well, the queuing was ridiculous. It took 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to the counter. I couldn't understand it. How can it be so complicated and long winded to issue a flipping ticket. It's because they make it damn complicated. You can pick a time to come back yourself so people piss around studying what time to come back. And then there is a choice of just the SkyBridge which is level 41/42. Or that, plus the top observation deck on 84.
Then what? We queued 2 hours and 15 minutes and the woman at the counter said they only have 6.15pm and only can do SkyDeck. I tutted and said what is the point in that, and generally just looked pissed off. We're not queuing all that time and going half way up the tower!! She said she'd have a look, and then managed to find two tickets for 12.15pm to do the whole thing. There was actually only one ticket left for 12.15pm and the other was for 6.15pm, so she scribbled 6.15pm out and put 12.15pm - I noticed what she'd done when she gave us the tickets.
Really poorly organised. Should just be like anywhere else where you queue and go up - first come, first served.
We had a bit of time to kill so went for a coffee and to sit down - been stood for too long!
Killed a bit more time in the shopping mall and also got myself a couple of cheap t-shirts from TopMan. A couple of mine were all ruined. TopMan/TopShop is more expensive over here by a couple of quid, but they had a 20% off offer.
It gets really annoying in these shops though because the staff pounce on you as soon as you walk through the door. They follow you around the shop and ask what you are looking for. I don't know, just looking and seeing if anything takes my fancy!! The woman at TopMan was ok though, she just wanted to hold all the t-shirts I wanted to try on and take them off the hangers for me... I think they work on commission so that's why they're incredibly helpful and pestering. They're even like that in the food courts. Every little restaurant you walk past they're asking you to look. Then when you look at the menu they're about to cook everything you point at!!
Finally it was time to go up the tower. It started off with a short film introduction about the towers, then we took the first lift up 42 floors to the SkyBridge. The lift went up one floor every second - pretty quick. The SkyBridge was pretty cool and had a good view. It's not that high though. But it's the highest SkyBridge in the world so they say. Probably because there aren't many.
Then we took the next lift another 42 floors to the 84th floor - ears popped that time! The views up there were fantastic. Could see right out into the distance although it would have been even better if it was a bit clearer. There's really good all around views because it's like a dome at the top. So, although it's not as high as the one we went up in Shanghai, the views were in a way better because you can see all the way around. They also have binoculars up there.
It was worth the long wait anyway.
After that it was time to head back to the mall for some food. We shared a big sandwich from O'Briens Irish Sandwiches...they have everything over here. They even do deliveries as well. In fact, loads of the big food outlets do delivery - McDonalds, KFC!! It's the same all over Asia. There's that many people in these countries, they can create a job for anything and don't have to pay that much.
We did a lot of wandering around in the afternoon and by the time we got back it was about 5pm. We had booked ourselves into the KL Tower rotating restaurant for tea but had read loads of bad reviews about the food being awful and it's only good for the views. It was going to cost £27 each, so we cancelled it.
I fell asleep for about 45 minutes as well after that and by that time it was 6.30pm. We went out to get some food and fancied a jacket potato. We knew that Wendy's do them, so went there and just ordered one to see what it was like. Chilli and cheese. Was awful. Tiny serving of chilli then that runny squirty cheese stuff. I ate it anyway. Can't be wasting money. Therese got some noodles from the food court.
We were going to go for a very expensive drink or two in the SkyBar at the top if one of the hotels but didn't end up bothering. It was a bit too late. Instead, got some pictures of the Petronas Twin Towers at night. It's all lit up at night and looks amazing! Got some nice pictures.
It's been a long day. Midnight by the time we got to bed!!
