We set our alarms this morning to make sure we actually got up at a reasonable time, and went down for breakfast at about 10am.
The breakfast is a bit weird here. There's this fruit which is ok and I think it's Asian pear. But then they gave us toast with something like a treacle in the middle and then a pancake type thing each. But the pancake is really eggy. It's like a cross between a pancake and an omelette. Doesn't taste too good.
So yesterday we bought a box of Nature Valley granola bars, and ate them with the coffee from here - nice coffee! We did eat the Asian pear fruit though. And then we grabbed some watermelon chunks from the supermarket over the road.
Time for a bit of sightseeing.
We caught the monorail a couple of stops which only cost 1.20 Ringitt (£24p), but then had to walk for 30 minutes to an area called Lake Gardens. Long walk but we need some exercise...we've put a few pounds on with all this drinking!! They had a little shaded pik-nik area so we sat and had our watermelon and had a rest from the blazing sun.
Another 10 minute walk and we made it to the Bird Park. It supposedly has the biggest walk-in aviary in the world. It cost 45 Ringitt (£9) each which isn't too bad. The first part we walked into had some random birds flying about, big and small, but then there were quite a few caged up. Parrots, cockatoos, all that kind of stuff. Then a few out for photo opportunities too.
The best part about aviaries is being able to feed the birds. We did it at Busch Gardens last year and Therese had loads on her. We bought some seeds and nectar and the birds flocked to us. They flew to our hands and perched on a finger. Lorries I think they're called - they're not shy. We had a look around some more and saw emus and ostriches and lots of others. Then we watches the Bird show. They had the parrots doing clever stuff etc. It was pretty good, but the presenter guy had a really squeaky high-pitched voice and spoke really fast. Not as good as the show we've seen in Portugal, but still pretty good.
It wasn't too bad in the Bird Park but not as good as we expected at all.
Now we had to walk the opposite way to find another monorail station. It took us ages to get to it. I bet an hour. We got to see some of the historical building though, and that whole area is very nice and european looking.
Finally got back to the shopping mall near our guesthouse and grabbed something to eat in the food court. Cost us 6.50 Ringitt (£1.30) for sweet and sour chicken with rice - nice and cheap and makes up for last night's expense!
It was pretty late by that time, about 7.30pm so we just got back to our room and relaxed after a pretty tiring day. But once the aircon woke us up, we felt like doing something. So, we went to the cinema again to see The Social Network. Yeah, you may laugh, but when you're backpacking and on a budget, a cheap date at the cinema is a good option. We really enjoyed the film as well. Really interesting and I'm racking my brains to come up with a billion dollar idea.
Didn't get in until 1.30am though and we've got to be up early!
