Wednesday, the drive to Vang Vieng only took 3 hours however the driver was a lunatic so Laura moved seats as she thought she was going to go flying through the windscreen. When we arrived we dropped our bags in our hotel then went for some lunch with Evelien and Joseph, an American guy from Eveliens hostel. After lunch we decided to go exploring, we walked to Tham Chang caves, on route we were joined by Caroline and Alex from Switzerland and Christoph from Belgium. The caves were really cool, we dipped into a nice cool lagoon and swam into the caves, luckily Joseph and Christoph had torches so we were able to see! After, Christoph took us on a country walk back to the main road which was beautiful, some people did some more exploring in different caves and came out with tales of massive spiders! It was reaching sunset so their were hot air balloons around and farmers collecting their animals from the fields, we crossed a bridge over the river where children were playing and jumping into the river, we enjoyed watching and cheering them on if any got a little nervous about the height, it was pretty high! We decided to all freshen up then we met at 20:00 for dinner, we were also joined by Romina from Switzerland, Tsering from Canada and Yang Yang from China, our group reached 10 and we had a great evening swapping travelling stories.
Thursday we had agreed to all meet at 11 and go tubing together, we paid for our tubes, hopped on the Tuk Tuk and headed off to the river. Tubbing is very popular in Vang Vieng for tourists, it's a river bar crawl and you basically just float down the river in your tube (a inner tyre) then each bar throws you a rope and tows you in, it's very fun! We had a great time and were rather drunk by 18:00! When we got back we all went for dinner then freshened up for some evening antics, Laura was done for the day but Ben partied on for a free tshirt! We have had such a great time in our group of stray travellers and wish them all well on their onward journey. We both had an awful nights sleep due to the consumption of Asian Red Bull!
Friday we met Evelien at 10 to walk to a viewpoint, on route we bumped into Taylor who enjoyed tubing so much she was going again today and heading to Luang Prabang tomorrow. The walk to the viewpoint was nice, we had many encounters with cows and friendly calfs that like to lick! The 'viewpoint' was actually a hill and not up the mountain as we thought, we didn't want to pay for an average view so didn't bother and returned to our hotel. We freshened up and packed our bags, we were collected at 13:30 for our bus to Luang Prabang.
