This morning we went with Matty from Albury/Wadonga down to the famous Abbey Road Studio and pedestrian crossing. It was hilarious seeing how many people where there trying to get photos and do the pose on the crossing. Drivers were getting so cross and tooting horns, but we did wonder what they expected driving down that road! It was a bit if fun anyway and we wrote messages on the wall outside the studio. The wall was already covered and we were amazed to learn they'd only repainted it a week ago.
We then caught the overground to Hampstead Heath. We knew it was big but we were amazed by how untouched parts of it felt when you moved away from the entrances. It is a very peaceful place and lacks the heavily manicured feel of many parks nearer the city, which is only to it's advantage. From Parliament Hill you have great views of London, surrounded by family picnics and kite-flyers. Today was also the first day where it has been getting very hot so we headed for Camden to find lunch.
Our first stop was the home and memorial of Amy Winehouse to pay our respects. It was a truly sad and touching scene, the park in front of her home lined with flowers, cards and other tributes to someone so talented who died so young.
Camden Town is a place that is always buzzing and, being a weekend, was as busy as it gets. We wandered the markets and found a nice little pub before heading back to our hostel to find a TV that was showing the second and final day if Emirates Cup. We ended up in a chain of Aussie pubs called Walkabout which has around 10 TVs and houses sport Sundays. It was very weird and the menus were hilarious with lots of Aussie gimmicks.
It was nice to stay out of the city and explore northern London near our hostel. It's a very nice place and other than Camden is away from the overwhelming busyness and the huge numbers of people. We could definitely live in this part of London.
