We left Beatty Lodge this morning and headed into the city to the YHA where we are staying for 4 nights with Tosh who is arriving today for an Urban History conference. It was a big coincidence that we're in Perth the same time he is - we didn't change our plans to fit in or anything!
We arrived at the hostel late morning and put our bags in the luggage room as we couldn't check-in until 1pm. We were just wondereing where Tosh was, as his flight was due in at 2am, and we'd text him and left him a message on facebook…when he appeared in front of us at reception! Turns out he ran out of phone credit, but had already been to the hostel and had a shower, then went to the WA museum for a wander. We spent an hour or two sat on the sofas in reception chatting and catching up - a lot has happened in the last 8 months!
We then decided to have a wander around the city to kill some time. We stopped at a bar for a beer, had a cheap lunch at McDonald's (Tosh is also on a budget!), relaxed in a park and had an ice cream by the river - quite a busy afternoon. We stopped at a supermarket on the way back to the hostel to stock up on food, and then it was time to check-in at last.
We'd booked 3 beds in a 4-bed dorm, but were told they didn't have 3 beds together in one room so we'd be split up with 2 in one room and one in another. Tosh volunteered to go on his own but luckily was only down the corridor from us! We dumped our bags in our room then cooked dinner.
We were all keen to go for a few drinks so started in the hostel bar 'Packaz' where were disappointed with the prices (thought hostel bars were meant to be cheap!!). We then walked over the bridge to Northbridge, after Tosh asked a bloke in an internet café to look up where some bars where! We ended up in a pub called the Brass Monkey, which was quite busy. We stayed there all night until we got kicked out at closing time, then managed to find our way back to the hostel!
A good night out in Perth!
