This morning we woke up to a note from Chris saying that she'd taken Kelly to the vet. After we'd had our breakfast, Chris returned to say that the vet had had to put Kelly to sleep - very sad news, but probably for the best. Chris had brought her home and laid her in the bedroom.
We got on with our jobs for the day, including digging the holes for the new fence posts - hot work and time consuming, but we can see what the end result is, so it feels like we achieved something. We also went next door to trim back some of the neighbours' plants that were hanging over Chris and Paul's fence - the neighbour Meredith wasn't too pleased with us being there (she is a 'private' person!) but we had a job to do!
After lunch, we walked to McDonalds to use the free wifi and the nearby shopping centre - a massive sprawling place that wasn't really designed for people on foot! We went to Woolworths (same as NZ Countdown supermarket) for some wine, only to find that they don't sell booze in Australian supermarkets! We were very hot and bothered by then and were about to give up and head home when I spotted another big shop called 'Dan Murphy's' - liquor specialists! We picked up a couple of bottles of wine for prices that were even cheaper than supermarkets back home - bargain! I think we'll be going back!
When we got home, Paul and Chris were preparing a grave for Kelly in the front garden. So we tried to stay out of the way and let them say goodbye. We took our wine up to the roof deck and watched the amazing sunset over the Gulf.
Eventually, Chris came up and invited us to have a glass of wine with them to toast Kelly in the front garden - a good send off for a lovely dog!
