We were up early today as we had to get the 10am train to Port Noarlunga and our first HelpX experience! HelpX is a website where you find hosts that will put you up and feed you in exchange for four hours of work per day - a great way for us to save money! Our hosts are called Chris and Paul and they live 45 minutes outside of Adelaide City, near the beach at Port Noarlunga.
On the train, we text Chris and she told us that Paul would be there to meet us at the station. When we arrived, Paul drove us around the town and showed us where everything was - looks like a nice place!
We were originally due to arrive in the afternoon but they had invited us to go wine tasting with them so we changed our plans (naturally!) to get there in the morning. We were shown around their lovely house, over a cuppa, while Chris prepared dinner for later. Then it was time for wine tasting! The winery we went to was in the Adelaide Hills and was called Griffin's. It is the weekend home of Trevor Griffin who runs the winery as a hobby! We were very lucky to be able to go as they only do wine tastings there twice a year and they are by invitation only - Chris and Paul are on the mailing list.
The house was amazing, with stunning views over the vineyards in the area - the largest vineyards we've seen so far! It is one of the largest wine regions in Australia and we recognised some of the winery names from wines we've had back at home. We spent a lovely few hours there in the sun, getting to know our hosts over quite a bit of wine (!) and talking to the other guests at the tasting.
On the way back, we stopped at Black Duck winery at Willunga Creek, which has an amazing view out to the coast. After a few more tastings of wine, we headed back to the house for our roast dinner. The two French girls who are staying there at the moment, Anais and Ambre, joined us and enjoyed practicing their spoken English with us. Dinner was amazing and just what we needed after all that wine! We went to bed at 10pm, exhausted after our long day and not much sleep the previous night - I think we're going to like it here!
