After a comfortable night in our cabin (we even had a double bed!), we were woken up at 6:30 for breakfast, which was an amazing buffet of cereal, fresh fruit and toast with all sort of jams and spreads! We got a bit excited and ate too much though!
After breakfast we all collected our stinger suits and swimming gear, and were taken in groups of 10 over to the beach at Tongue Bay, in the small tender motorboat. We were told to walk up to the lookout and then down to the famous Whitehaven Beach (the one that's on all the postcards!). The view from the lookout was spectacular, so everyone spent some time taking photos, before heading for the beach.
We were all boiling hot by the time we got to the beach, so we put our stinger suits on and got straight in the crystal clear water. The sand is 98% silica, and was used to polish the lens of the hubble telescope. It's supposed to be good for cleaning jewellery, exfoliating skin and cleaning teethe! We saw a few stingrays in the water, but luckily no jellyfish! It was really relaxing sitting in the water or on the beach. I even managed to collect a few bits of coral and shells that had washed up on the beach for my collection.
We had a lovely few hours relaxing and taking photos, then walked back to Tongue Bay to be picked up in the tender boat to take us back to the big boat. We were told to wash and hang up our stinger suits and then help ourselves to lunch, which was set out ready for us! We could get used to this lifestyle!
After lunch we sailed for a few hours to Margaret's Cove where we went snorkelling for a while. It was Kelly's first time snorkelling and not a bad place to start! The coral was amazing and we saw lots of different fish, including the 'Geordie fish' we saw in Fiji! We were told that we were staying there for the night, so we had a quick cold shower then got settled for another night on the boat!
There were mid-afternoon snacks of crisps, biscuits and cake, so we were all still full when M announced dinner was ready! The food was lovely again, we just wished it had been a couple of hours later so we could have enjoyed it more.
At sunset, we got out the camera to take some photos. Dave discovered that there was a 'sunset mode' which is supposed to enhance the colours. I was just explaining to the Canadian girls that we were quite annoyed that we can't take panoramic photos on our camera, as we could have taken some amazing shots on our travels…after having another search of the camera settings, what did I find? Panoramic setting!! I was really pleased that we had it, but also very annoyed that we hadn't found it before now! Never mind, plenty of more opportunities for panoramic shots during the last 4 months of the trip!
That night we polished off our other box of goon, playing cards, chatting, and then playing a team game led by M. Our team was us, Kelly, and the 3 Irish people. None of us could really be bothered and we didn't win any of the strange (and sometimes disgusting) games, so we came last - but there weren't any prizes anyway!
Soon after the team games ended, we retired to bed as there will be another early start tomorrow…
