This morning we had a much-needed lie-in after a couple of early starts! Then we walked into the town of Rainbow Beach for a look around the shops and some brunch - Kel treated us to pancakes, scrambled eggs and muesli - yum! We also went down to the beach to have a quick paddle and we picked up some food supplies before heading back to the hostel. We had plenty to get done - washing everything in our bags and then re-packing took a while!

We managed to find time for a swim in the hostel pool, where I got talking to a Welsh lad who'd been back from Fraser for a few days. In the evening we decided to cook our own tea in the hostel kitchen which turned out to be a bad idea…it was the worst hostel kitchen we've ever had to use. There were no plate sets available for us to use, so we were given half-clean stuff from behind the bar, there was nothing to light the rubbish stoves with and we were told to ask a smoker to borrow their lighter, and then the stove half-set on fire and the chef from the bar kitchen had to run out and turn off all the gas! So we weren't in the best of moods afterwards! We headed to the hostel bar with Lena, a German girl we met on the trip. We also met a funny Mackem couple called Steven and Emma (what are the chances??) and a couple of Swedish lads when we visited Dingoes, the hostel next door. They showed us their Snus (pronounced 'snooze'), a Swedish snuff that you put under your lip until it dissolves. It sounded disgusting and not the best thing for your lungs or gums, but they loved it. I tried to tell them that if you snus, you lose, but I think my message got lost in translation…
