Today we headed for Rainbow Beach on the Greyhound - sad to leave Noosa, but looking forward to our adventure on Fraser Island!
We arrived at our hostel, Fraser's on Rainbow, a little early so we had plenty of time to settle in before our briefing for the Island at 2pm. We're heading off on a tag-along tour - a group of 4WDs with a lead guide and lots of tents catch the ferry across to Fraser Island, the biggest sand island in the world, for 3 days and 2 nights of exploring.
At the briefing we were given a full rundown of what to expect on the island (dingos, lots of sand and some incredible scenery) and how to drive the cars safely on sand. Unfortunately for me, I found out that I can't drive one because I haven't had my licence for 2 years…I'll have to leave it to Laura and Kelly instead! They also told us a few general things about camping including how to use a shovel to go to the toilet in the bush…nice!
In the evening, we sorted our bags to take with us, then headed to the hostel bar for a few cheap drinks. We ended up sitting with a few Irish lads who are heading to the island the day after us. Time for an early night again because of our early start tomorrow - we must be getting old!
