Today we planned to explore some more of the city so Jeffery kindly drew a route on our map and told us what to look out for on the way. The route he gave us had minimal hills which sounded good to us!
Before we got the train into the City Jeffery took us to his favourite breakfast place called 'Trouble Coffee' where we had a surfers breakfast of a whole coconut, coffee and a massive slice of cinnamon toast - perfect way to start the day!
First stop on our walking tour was the ferry building, full of stalls selling all sorts of lovely food. We may have been tempted by some of it if we weren't so full from breakfast! As we walked round the back of the building we saw what we thought was a mirage in the distance...two payphones!! So we made some phonecalls - me to my sister Dawn and Dave to home where he spoke to his mam, dad and sister Kelly. It was really nice to catch up with family, especially after the fiasco of trying to find a phone a few days before!
We followed our route and saw all the sights we had been told to look out for - the church where Marilyn Monroe got married, the cafe where The Godfather was written, City Lights Bookstore where all the Beat crowd used to hang out and THE best chinese restaurant in the city in Chinatown (although we were still too full to eat!).
After completing our walking tour we headed to tourist central - Fisherman's Wharf! It was a bit over the top but we liked it and manged to buy our postcards and magnet and eat a mediocre hot dog.
After a tiring day walking around the city we got the bus and train back to the beach. We made the mistake of travelling during rush hour so didn't get a seat until we were nearly there!
We didn't do much when we got back, just hung out chatting to Jeffery and Chelsea and ordered some Thai food. We also started looking up where to go next on our California leg of the trip!
