Happy Independance Day!!

We slept in til 10am today to prepare for our 4th July celebrations! We went to Safeway to buy beer and lunch then we set off with a group from the hostel for Dolores Park. When we arrived the park was already busy - people from all walks of life and wearing all sorts of clothes (!) all sat out enjoying the sunshine. We found a good spot near the stage - the San Francisco Mime Troupe were performing '2012 - the musical'! Wooo! In front of us were a couple of men, one in only his batman underpants with flaming red hair, and the other wearing green fishnets - welcome to San Francisco! The sun was really warm and we enjoyed a few hours of drinking, chatting and eating ice cream. We watched the show which was a political musical comedy about next years presidential election and the battle between the unions and the government.

After the show had finished we moved to another part of the park for more drinking and sunbathing! Eventually we packed up and headed back to the hostel for a while before going to Coit Tower (a long climb up very steep hills!) to watch the fireworks! The view was OK but slightly blocked by a few bushes and lots of people stood on the wall in front of us. Still an impressive show though!

We ended the night in a bar called Specs, where we had a good chat to a couple of English guys who'd checked into the hostel about where they had been on their trip. After a lovely day, we headed back to the hostel ready to move onto our free accommodation tomorrow!
