San pedro is a lovely little town, and even though it is in the middle of the desert you can already tell that chile is so much more affluent than Bolivia... Food prices up at least 3x already!! San pedro is an oasis in the middle of the driest desert in the world and the scenery around is crazy! Hired bikes here and went for a ride with amy hannah and donna through dinosaur valley (coz the big rocks here look like stegosauruses all walking in lines!!) I'm getting slowly better at riding! We then later ahd a tour of the Valle de la luna, so called because the first person to discover and name it thought it looked like the surface of the moon.. We also visited a set of rocks that are covered with salt and if silent you can actually hear cracking as they contract with the cold!! can see where big parts have cracked and fallen off! Went to a viewpoint over the town which was so windy that you could totally lean into it and not fall over!! In the moon valley we then climed a sand dune and watched to sunset with a drink of pisco sour... Gorgeous day!
Next day we had some time to kill before a night bus, so i went on a horse ride with some others, mark didnt fancy smelling of horse on the bus all night, so didnt come! At first the horse seemed fine, then started to get spooked at everything that moved, like even plastic bags!! My dislike of horses became even stronger at this point... The guide even made me change horses coz the one i was on was a bit mental! The second horse was a good horse, but at one point one girl who had ridden her whole life wanted to go faster and was at the front, my horse wanted to keep up and i didnt feel i could control it, freaked out and started crying!! HAHA! such a loser! The guide took the reigns after that and led me back!! Dnt think i'll EVER be going on a horse again!
For dinner on one of the nights our guide convinced a few poeple to go for the traditional chilean bbq... Sounded good (luckily i didnt get it...) mark did though, and when it came there wasn't your normal steak and sausages, but heart, lung, intestine, blood sausage, liver and kidneys!!! I could deal with the liver and sausages, but intestines?? Mark tried everything, but I think he'll be staying away from now on!!
