We got up early on Monday morning and were taken to the elephant camp. We spent the day first feeding the elephants bananas in the jungle, then walking them to the top of the hill. After that we had lunch at the camp and then we went for a mud bath with the elephants and then after into the river to wash off and play with them. It was so amazing to be that up and close with them. I was brushing one in the river and it started to kiss my leg with his trunk! After we had finished in the river we went back to the camp had a shower in the local waterfall and then went to look around the local village. We met a lot of local people, bought some food and then came back to cook it. We all sat round together whilst the guide cooked our food which was delicious! We went to bed early in our dorm which was basically just a mat on the floor with a fly net over it!
The next day we went to a local Thai wedding in the morning. To begin with we went round and met the brides family and then the grooms and helped to prepare some of the food. Then we went to the ceremony in the local Catholic Church. They asked one of us to get up and say something at the end because apparently they like to hear English so Kerry got up and said a few words over the microphone haha! After the wedding we then went for lunch and then did the same as the day before and had a mud bath with the elephants and then went in the river with them again which was very fun! We then came back to camp, showered in the waterfall again and then went and bought food again to cook.
The next morning we went and helped out where the elephants were, we swept up their poo and all the remains of the banana trees and fed them as well! We went in the river with them again and washed them down of all the mud! We went back to camp for lunch and then we travelled to our guides Karen village. We spent the afternoon looking around the village and then went back to his house for dinner. We also went to visit his cousin who had week old puppies that we were allowed to hold! They were so cute!
The next day we looked around the village some more. We walked to the fields where a lot of the Karen women were working and watched them collecting pollen. We had lunch back at the house again and then in the afternoon we went to the waterfall and made up some sandbags that would be used to help build toilets for the local school. We bathed in the waterfall and then went back and had dinner all together.
The next day we went and visited the local junior school. We spent the morning with the kids going through English phrases and words and playing games with them. They were all so sweet and so well behaved! We had lunch back with our guide for the final time and the we got a truck to a different camp where we would have a new guide. We first visited camp 4 before we were to go on to camp 5 and stay the last couple of nights. We played with the elephants in camp 4 and fed them, there was a tiny one of 2 months old, she was so so tiny and so cute! We then went to camp 5 where everyone who worked there was much younger so it was fun, we all had dinner and drinks together!
The next morning we went on the truck to a different camp where we chopped down and collected banana trees for the elephants to eat. Once we had done this we went back to camp 5 and swam in the waterfall and sunbathed. We had lunch and then In the afternoon played with the elephants and fed them, after this we swept and cleaned their enclosure and then went back to the waterfall to shower. This was our last night at the sanctuary so we had dinner all together and drunk quite a few beers! Our guide made us individual shot glasses out of the bottom of banana trees and engraved them all.
The next morning we went and played with the elephants one last time, instead of getting muddy and wet we decided to sit on the side and watch. This didn't last for long the guides splashed us all a lot and I even got thrown in! We had lunch at the camp and then after we Trekked to camp 4 to see the baby elephant one last time, we fed them, watched them play and took photos and after we headed back to Chiang Mai after a great week. Back in chiang mai our group all got to stay in the owners hostel for free and we all went out for one last dinner together. Everyone in our group was so nice and it was sad to say goodbye. We booked our bus for the next day that would take us to Chiang Pai.
