We arrived on the night train to Chiang Mai and even though we were both on top bunk we slept reasonably well! We arrived at 7am and got a taxi to our hostel. We managed to check in early and spent the rest of the day exploring the city, we visited a few temples, went to the local parks and had lunch at a restaurant. In the evening we went and had dinner at a local Italian restaurant, the food was lovely.

The next day we went to chiang mai zoo. There was loads of animals there and it was cool to see the pandas (which you had to pay extra for) but they enclosures were quite small and dirty so it wasn't actually that enjoyable to see all the other animals. In the evening we went to the Sunday night market which was amazing! So many stalls and it was packed, I bought two tops and a bracelet there and we ate the street food as well which was incredible. We had skewers and sausages and then waffles for dessert! We went to bed earlyish as we were up early the next day to start our 7 day elephant volunteer programme.
