Still at Leasburg Dam campground. We had sun, rain, and rainbows early. Patti/Wayne made a delicious breakfast feast. A real treat since most breakfasts are quick before driving events. Later we drove to White Sands National Park which was about an hour away. This 275 square miles of white dunes is the only place in the world with these tiny gypsum crystals. The wind was blowing, the sky changed from sunny to ominous black minute by minute, highlighting the dunes or casting them into shadows. It was absolutely beautiful and unworldly. We took lots of photos but it was difficult to capture the feeling of seeing these dunes. We stopped at a local Las Cruces Mexican restaurant where the food was either too spicy or too bland depending on the consumer. We came back to our campground for more rest and to do some preliminary packing up since we are trying to leave even earlier than usual to minimize the impact of the forecasted winds for our drive to Tucson AZ tomorrow.

M&R Thanks for the update! I sand surfed in bare feet with the sister-in-law when we were there years ago.
