We arrived at Koh Phi- Phi Don after a short ferry trip from Krabi only to find that although it is an island off the coat of Thailand, the constant nagging of hotel touts had not eluded this island. We eventually settled for a basic but nice beach hut only 50m from the beach. It was basic but our most expensive room yet! It was very hot and humid, apparantaly it was 42 degrees during the day and not much cooler during the night. We spent the next 2 days just walking around the town, snorkeling and lazing on the beach. For our 3 rd night we booked an overnight trip to camp on the beach at Maya Bay, this is where Leonardo De Caprio filmed the beach.
En route to the beach we stopped at one of the bays and had a snorkel off the boat, it was awesome, the best diving conditions we had both experienced. We arrived at the beach about 5 o'clock just as all the day trippers were leaving and then we had the beach to ourselves for the night( our group had only 25 people). After spending the night under the stars as it was too hot to sleep in the tent we packed up and got back on the boat to go around to Shark Point to see as the name suggests, Sharks. We must have missed them feeding but Layne managed to see one from afar.
After our snorkelling we decided that it would be a good place to dive and went back to town to book a dive trip. We had a trip the next day which started at 7.00am,, a bit early but once we were in the water it was cool. On our 1st dive we saw sea snake, turtle and loads of colourful fish. It was great.
Our 2nd dive was just as good but on both dives i managed to use up my air alot quicker than everybody else so after 50min the divemaster had to bring me up to the surface and then go back down and finish the dive with the rest. Briege managed to stay down another 20 min on the 2nd dive, gutted!
The last 3 days on Phi-Phi we just spent lazing on the beach or chilling on the hammock in our luxury bungalow on a cliff 50m above the sea.
Next stop Khao Sok National park
