Yesterday we drove all day, mostly through sugar cane plantations and arrived late at Ball Bay camping area (we were going to stay at seaforrh campground but it was full). This morning we got up and had our coffee on the beautiful bay beach (photo). The water is shallow and the tides go out for 100's of meters.

It was still drizzling when we left Babinda and we drove down to Kurrimine beach (only about 80km south) and it has been dry all day- still cloudy but warm. The boys spent the afternoon in the Pool at the caravan park. We went for a walk along the beach at high tide (photo).

After 2 attempts, Jeff caught the rat with the rat trap (Yay). However the rain did not stop overnight and the tent continued to leak along a seam or 2, so the boys spend the night in bed with me and Jeff spent the night dodging drips on the stretcher. This morning we learnt that every year Tully and Babinda compete for the 'Golden Gumboot' award which is given to the town in Australia with the highest annual rainfall - Babinda often wins!! Rain, rain, rain! We went nearly 10 weeks without seeing any rain and now it has rained (or drizzled) for the past 24 hours! We discovered minor leaks in the tent, packed up in the rain and set up in the mud! The Lync-Haven campground is fabulous - we are staying here for 3 nights. The owner Scott keeps many animals. We watched him feed Doris, a 3m saltwater crocodile and the boys held his pet python. We all fed the wallabies and kangaroos, then went for a walk through the rainforest in search of a cassowary.
