Rain, rain, rain! We went nearly 10 weeks without seeing any rain and now it has rained (or drizzled) for the past 24 hours! We discovered minor leaks in the tent, packed up in the rain and set up in the mud! I was looking forward to spending some time relaxing in the lush green rain-forests and walking along the beautiful Queensland beaches but now somehow the red dust is appearing attractive again!!
We are on the homestretch now and everyone is dreaming of getting home to their own beds and to see friends - I keep reminding myself and the boys that it is really cold at home. I'm sure once the weather clears we will enjoy the warm weather and beautiful places on the Queensland coast.
We have had a rat in the back of the ute since Undara volcanic NP and that has added some stress. Jeff spent hours yesterday, emptying the back of the ute, hosing it out and blowing it with the air compressor. Despite removing all the food, this morning when Jeff opened the back he saw the rat; and there were holes in the aeroguard, sunscreen, stubby holders and other plastic lids! We have now set a rat trap and laced the back with D-ter. If it is alive tomorrow Jeff has more plans in mind!
Tonight we opted to stay in a free camp rest area just off the Hwy in a little town called Babinda instead of staying in the National Park that was likely to be Muddy.
